(The rest of) Your Questions Answered

Good afternoon folks (and good morning on the West Coast). Well, it took a little while to finish off the last part of the most recent Q&A, but it is finally done. Here are the answers to the remaining questions from last week's Q&A. Enjoy. ------------------------- SQUARD- With Honduras in the Olympics, What are the chances that Guevara will be one of their three "over 23" players? IVES- I can see Honduras wanting Guevara, I just wonder if he will want to leave Toronto for a month to play in the Olympics.Ives Galarcep

(Even more of) Your Questions Answered

Good afternoon folks. I was able to get through another portion of the record-setting Q&A from two weeks ago. Needless to say I will be capping all future Q&A sessions a lot quicker so we get somewhere in the 50 question range rather than the 120 question range. Now, here is the third part of the most recent Q&A session (I will finish the final portion of the most recent Q&A tonight). As always, feel free to share your thoughts below:Ives Galarcep

SBI MLS Team of the Month: April

Photo by ISI Photos As far as months go, April was a memorable one for MLS fans. You not only had goals galore, you had outrageous goals. Beautiful strikes all over the place. You had offense reigning in a league where offense hasn't always been at a premium. You also had the league's power pecking order shaken up, with Columbus and Toronto rising, and Houston and D.C. United struggling. Then there was Landon Donovan, who thoroughly dominated the competition on his way to MLS Player of the Month honors (from MLS as well as SBI). Donovan wasn't the only player...Ives Galarcep

MLS Week 6: My Best XI Observations

Christian Gomez exacted revenge, David Beckham proved he can do more than just set up goals and the Columbus Crew won AGAIN. It was yet another interesting week in the early MLS season and only the rash of Western Conference ties served to put a damper on the activities. Here are my Best XI observations from Week 6 (in no particular order): Christian Gomez sets up both goals AND Facundo Erpen scores one in Colorado's 2-0 win against D.C. United. Talk about sweet revenge. Meanwhile, Marcelo Gallardo has no impact and is left staring at his MLS Goal of the...Ives Galarcep

Morning Ticker: Arsenal-Liverpool draw, Fenerbahce wins and MLS lays down the law

Good morning everybody. It is the day after the first leg of the UEFA Champions League and if you're like me, you're going through a little UCL withdrawal. If you are an MLS fan you are probably asking yourself how it is that two of the best teams in MLS can't score a single goal in the first legs of their CONCACAF Champions Cup series. D.C. being beaten 2-0 by Pachuca on the road is one thing, seeing the Dynamo held scoreless by Deportivo Saprissa last night was troubling. Here is a rundown of some stories and replays to get...Ives Galarcep

An interesting trend among MLS media guides

I received a UPS package on Monday and when I saw the heavy square box I knew right away it was the 2008 MLS media guides. Sure, it was several months earlier than I have ever received them but after hearing that the league would fine teams that turned guides in late, I knew they were on their way earlier than usual. A quick scan of the guides revealed some interesting tidbits, such as the fact that while Oscar Echeverry has yet to be officially introduced as a Red Bulls signing, there he is on page page 50, with 'Signed...Ives Galarcep

MLS Fines Galaxy Defender Abel Xavier

It's tempting to say Abel Xavier was fined for going AWOL on defense Saturday against the Rapids, but alas that's not true. Colorado Rapids midfielder Ciaran O'Brien was also fined by the MLS Disciplinary Committee today and received an additional one-game ban for putting Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz in hospital. From the MLS press release: Xavier was fined a total of $1,600 and receives an automatic one-game red card suspension for his actions in Saturday nights game versus the Rapids, while OBrien was fined a total of $500 and is suspended two games for dangerous conduct in the same game. Xavier was fined $750 for excessive dissent and $250 for failure to leave field following a red card that was given in the 89th minute of the game.  read more »

SBI MLS Goal of the Week: Nyassi does it

There was no shortage of quality goals this week as several highlight-reel-worthy strikes helped give MLS week one a sorely-needed boost. I will bring you my pick for the three best each week and this week there were so many good ones that a few quality goals didn't make the cut, including Cuauhtemoc Blanco's late equalizer vs. Real Salt Lake or Omar Cummings goal against Colorado. SBI goal of the week honors for week one go to New England's Sainey Nyassi, who's beautiful interception, run and finish served as the best moment in a masterful performance by New England on...Ives Galarcep
